Melbourne International Garden And Flower Show,
March 2023
A collaborative work between myself, Chloe Smith, and Annie Joyce. Our installment titled “Natural Triumph” and was part of the RMIT floral fashion competition at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show 2023. The theme we all worked under was “Rewilding”, our response to rewilding initially was the idea of nature retaking man-made areas. This inspired our group to consider the how nature needs to take ‘rewild’ our fashion designs. Connecting this thought to the brief we wanted to create a garment that visually represents plants taking over the form.
The materias we chose to use where statice flowers, straw flowers, isomalt, and eucalyptus. All plant material was either scavenged from our surroundings. Or bought from a local wholesale supplier, where our plants where grown locally and are all native to australia. Our decision was based on how the flowers dried out, meaning they didnt need a plastic heavy watering system throughout the exhebition. To create the bodice and mini skirt in our design we used Isomalt. Isomalt is a sugar subsitute used in cooking and special effects. It fully dissolves when in contact with water making it perfect for the “end of life” of our design.
