METAMORPHOSIS
January 2024

I wanted to explore the theme of metamorphosis but without evolution. Both in actual function of the “art” and it’s concept. Functionally “Changing Faces” can transform from a hanging wall piece to a small coin purse. Neither form is definitely an improvement from the other so it can’t evolve. But it can transform. For the concept I wanted to explore the feeling like we aren’t evolving quick enough as people. We focus too much on buying things that will improve us as humans and inevitability over consume. But it doesn’t improve us, and we slowly transform into what we own.

I, Lily Vernon acknowledge and pay my respects to the Woi wurrung and Boon wurrung language groups of the eastern Kulin Nation, where I conduct my studies and professional buisness. I respect their Ancestors, Elders of past, present, and future. Additionally I acknowledge that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples hold knowledge about textile practices and art techniques, which has been practiced for thousands of generations. On land which was stolen and still remains unceded.
