OROTON, (Resort Capsule Collection)
October 2023

The Oroton costumer is the fashionable middle aged Australian lady, with reasonable disposable income. She goes on holidays to Fiji, brunches with friends often. Either works from home or doesn’t work. And values comfort and self-care. My collection is trying to cater to both this main customer and a younger audience. This was a goal of the OROTON team when describing the brief. The Oroton daughter has lots of free time and money to spend. She’s a city girl who loves cocktails, nightlife, her friends and relaxing. The inspiration from my collection is drawn from three main sources. The historical aspect is inspired by 30-40’s knit swimwear, Historical Oroton bag photography and soft tailoring. My print and design styles will mainly be drawing from vintage knit. I’ve created my own knit swatch and then screen printed it onto fabric for my pattern design. I feel the women wearing these knit garments would’ve been the Oroton women of their day. And I wanted to draw on that heritage. The old bag photography Is interesting because almost all the photos are shot very angular, hence all the angles in my collection. The other aspect I wanted to include in my capsule collection is soft tailoring. I feel it’s a key part of Oroton's brand but not common in resort wear. I want to take tailored elements but create a relaxed wearing experience.

I, Lily Vernon acknowledge and pay my respects to the Woi wurrung and Boon wurrung language groups of the eastern Kulin Nation, where I conduct my studies and professional buisness. I respect their Ancestors, Elders of past, present, and future. Additionally I acknowledge that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples hold knowledge about textile practices and art techniques, which has been practiced for thousands of generations. On land which was stolen and still remains unceded.
